About Me

Every quilt tells a story… here’s mine.

I have been sewing since the age of five and making comforters and applique quilts long before I knew they were called quilts.  I thought I was just sewing a blanket… yup, a “blanket”!

As a young girl, I would wander into fabric stores and pet the fabric, just because it made my creative heart sing. I’d dream of all the things I could create with fabric and imagine how I could break the ‘rules’ to make something no one else had.

In my early 30’s I was brought under the tutelage of the “church ladies” that quilted in our church basement. They taught me the do’s and don’t’s of quilting.  I learned how to load my number 8 hand-sewing needle with 10-12 stitches and keep them perfectly uniform. I learned how to load a quilt on an old wooden frame and sit, stitching for hours. I learned more about life in those hours than just quilting. If I could spend just a few minutes with those ladies, I’d thank them for teaching me so much more than just quilting.

In my 40’s I started an online fabric shop (Fabric Please!) and travelled around Southern Ontario with my fabric trailer. You might have seen me at various quilt shows or guild retreats. I sold that business and now love bringing your quilt tops to life with my longarm quilting. Somehow, I’ve also morphed into the “t-shirt quilt lady” preserving memories by making quilts to last a lifetime.

Now that I’m in my 50’s, life just keeps getting better!  I’m loving every second of my journey and would like nothing more than to help you get Your Quilts Done!

My friend and I have been quilting for a few decades now and were so happy to meet Rita. She is an excellent long arm quilter, always offers constructive advice on patterns and thread, is very reasonable on price and turn around times and in our opinion is “Simply the Best.”

I have been quilting for a year now and finally broke down and sought out a longarmer. Boy am I glad I did! I had such a great experience I can’t wait until I need these services again.Rita is very kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating.I was a complete newbie to the process but Rita didn’t bat an eye. She walked me through the process making far better suggestions than I could have. The turn around time was super quick, even faster than estimated!!I was so pleased with how it turned out!My friends who I made it for were blown away!Do yourself a favour and go see Rita!

We had several quilts made for our Western Women's Basketball program. We couldn't be happier with the speed and quality of work that was done. The quilts are one of a kind keepsakes for several of our important alumni! We are already planning on having more done for next season.

I brought my quilt in to Rita recently. My Grandma made it and I’ve had it since I was a child and snuggled under it every night, it’s more precious to me than words can say. After several decades of use it was looking a little worse for wear, torn in some areas, and threadbare in others. I found Rita and we talked about the history, the fabrics (which were stories in themselves — some patches were my Grandfather’s shirt, some — my Grandmother’s dress…) and the patterns. Each quilt is a story and I’ll never look at them the same way. The work Rita did was magnificent, she restored this quilt with love, with an incredible eye for detail and brought it back to life for me. I can’t say enough about the amazing work Rita does. 💖
